No matter how early you start the packing process for a vacation, it's inevitable that you find yourself dashing around with just hours to go until your flight, trying to squeeze some last-minute items into your already-overflowing case. Due to the rushed nature of this activity, you will likely leave something behind.
Recently on a travel forum, users have been owning up to some of the essential items they've left behind when traveling. Here are the seven craziest responses.
1. The Kids' Suitcases
One user said that he had become so preoccupied with travel plans that he had forgotten to bring the kids' cases with him on a family vacation. He said:
“We were traveling from SF Bay Area to Portland. It's a 9hr drive. I had the genius idea to leave Friday night after work and drive the first 3hrs to Redding, thus making our second day much easier. When we arrived at the hotel, I took my suitcase out, my wife's suitcase out, and… OMG, the kids' suitcases were still at the top of the stairs at home.”
2. Everything but Socks
One user said that they made the fatal error of packing intoxicated, which led to a shocking discovery when they arrived at their destination. They said: “I packed drunk for a Florida work trip at 4:30 am, and when I got there, all I had was socks.” Another person replied, “That's why I don't mix alcohol with packing.”
3. A Suit
One person said they had once forgotten their suit for a trip away. Not the end of the world, right? Wrong! He explained: “I forgot my suit once while traveling out of town for a job interview. I got there early so I could rent one, but it was still funny.”
4. House Keys
One user said their mishap came on the return journey home when they realized on the flight home that they'd left their keys at the hotel. They said: “I forgot to pack my house keys – I'd left them in a drawer in a hotel room. Thankfully I was living with a flatmate who could let me in, and I had to get the hotel to return my keys to me.”
5. A Computer
One traveler recalled a time they had forgotten their PC on an important work trip. They said: “I drove six hours to a work location, and when I got there, I realized I had forgotten my pc; I work in IT, so I turned around and drove back home, then back to the work site. I think I got three hours of sleep that day.”
6. A Debit Card
One person said that they had once forgotten their debit card. Explaining how they said: “I accidentally grabbed my recently expired debit card. I got to the airport, tried to take out some cash, realized my error, and started freaking out! I was about to depart to Thailand with no money and no way of getting any money. Fortunately, my stepdad was randomly near the airport and rushed to the airport to give me some money.”
7. A Swimsuit
A swimsuit or two should surely be the first thing you pack when going to an exotic destination, right? Well, apparently not. One Redditor said: “I forgot to bring my swimsuit to Hawaii. Obviously, not a big deal since you can go buy another one within 200 feet of the hotel or whatever, but I couldn't believe I forgot to bring it.”
