So now you’ve decided to start your own blog/ online business. Congrats! You are officially an internet entrepreneur! Now it is time to pick a profitable niche. But how do you find your niche in blogging? Well, this is the first step of creating your own stream of income and reaching financial freedom. If you haven’t already, you need to launch your blog. This can be done before or after you pick your niche. If you need help on how to launch a blog, I have a step-by-step guide here.
Some people, like myself, already know what they want their niche to be. I knew without a doubt that my niche was going to be travel because it was something I enjoyed and friends and family asked me for advice all of the time. Maybe you’re on the fence and have no idea what you want to blog about. My best advice would be to blog about your passion. Whatever niche you pick, make sure it’s something you enjoy.
Why Do You Need A Niche?
I know it may seem beneficial to make a blog that will appeal to everyone. Sadly, that is not the case. Let’s use Amazon as an example. They have products for everyone and they are wildy successful right? The one key difference between Amazon and you and me is that they have a very large budget to afford the start-up products and marketing.
So for now you need to have a very specific target audience so that you can cater your content and products to things that will be relatable to your audience. It will make your blog easier to market and it will be easier to get your ads in front of the right people.
Having a specfic niche means you can create customers that will become return customers. You can sale similar products that will be attractive to people in your audience.
Exploring A Profitable Blog Niche
Now it’s time to explore your niche options. I must say that there are no niches that can’t be profitable. If you are interested in something that is not in the “norm” of blogging (if that’s even a thing) you can come up with ways to make it profitable. I will even help if you need me to.
There are many different niche options to pick from. For example, I am in the travel niche. There is a financial planning niche that helps people with finances. Weight loss is a very profitable niche because people like me are always looking for different ways to lose an extra 5 pounds.
There is the mommy niche which is composed of bloggers who blog about being a mom and different parenting styles. A few others are gardening, fashion, and personal development.
Picking Your Niche
Now it’s time to pick your niche. You want to make sure that your niche is specific enough so that you have a target audience. For example, if you decide you want your blog niche to be about freelancing, you should specify what type of freelancing. We all know the world of freelancing is so broad. You could be a freelance writer, software designer, artist, and the list goes on and on. My blog is about travel but its about BUDGET travel. I like to write tips and tricks on how to travel for the least amount of money possible. Picking a narrow subject makes it easy to focus on one profitable blog niche.
How To Find Your Niche In Blogging
I would recommend making a list of the top 5 things you want to blog about. Then slowly eliminate the topics by deciding which one you would like to blog about most. It is very important to pick a topic that you are most passionate about because you will be pouring your heart and soul into this. If you are having a problem eliminating some options do some research. When I was starting my blog, I stalked so many successful travel blogs like The Blog Abroad. If you want success in your blog, you need to know what success looks like so visit as many blogs as you need to.
Do a google search of the niche you want to pursue. If a lot of options pop up that’s good. It lets you know that there is a market for that type of topic and I know blogging is our passion but a profitable blog is even better.
