Puerto Rico Vacation Ideas
In this article, I will describe the 3 best Puerto Rico vacation ideas and things that you must do while on the island. The place that sparked my obsession with traveling and experiencing new cultures is Puerto Rico. Although it's a US territory, I felt like I was in a different country when I visited Puerto Rico. It is a special place. It gave me the island vibe but not the cut-off from the world island vibe that you normally get from islands. I fell in love and I LITERALLY lived my best life in Puerto Rico. If you are visiting, there are a few things you must do.
ATV Adventure
I arrived in Puerto Rico via a Disney Cruise and I was desperate for GROWN UP activities. It was a great time exploring the island. Here are my top Puerto Rico vacation ideas for you and your family and friends.
We found an ATV excursion online by Carabali Rainforest Adventure Park and we were sold on it because the park where the excursion departed was famous for their mojitos. Now, I don't know about you, but I am definitely a mojito girl. It was delicious. So delicious that I didn't even get to take a picture of it before it was completely gone.
The ATV excursion was a blast! We got to drive ATVs and explore a part of Puerto Rico that people normally don't see. It was an amazing experience and should be on the top of your list when you are looking for Puerto Rico travel ideas.
We chose the 2 hour Rainforest ATV Adventure which included a stop at the Mameyes river. I'm from Mississippi where most bodies of water are accompanied by large amounts of mud, so this was one of the most beautiful streams I had ever seen. As you can see, I'm only putting my feet in the water because if my hair was to get wet, it would have ruined the whole trip for me (Black girl problems).
La Placita, Puerto Rico
The first excursion was family friendly, but my next recommendation is definitely for grown ups. If you've ever been to New Orleans, this place is comparable to Bourbon Street. It's a strip of restaurants and bars and it is called La Placita. Mark My Words: You are not truly experiencing Puerto Rico if you do not go party at La Placita.
La Placita opens at night and at around 11 PM it is packed with locals and tourists. If you like to drink alcohol or if you like to dance, La Placita is the Placita for you. See what I did there. There are hundreds of bars on one street. At night, they shut the road down because there are so many people out having a good time.
I went inside a bar and was literally sweating because I was dancing so hard. My friend even found a cigar shop there and smoked a cigar with a friend that she brought along. If you are a partier, La Placita is a safe area and has everything your heart will desire.
Cruise Port
Since our cruise ended in Puerto Rico, getting off the boat and to our hotel was a whirlwind. I did not get to fully explore the port and the shops that were there. So while my friends went to the beach, I snuck off to explore the port. What I found at the port were a lot of bars and restaurants and a few small shops. The shops at the port, to me, were not impressive BUT what was the amazing view! It was a great experience and I enjoyed having the moment to myself.
So if you are looking for Puerto Rico vacation ideas be sure to put this excursion, La Placita, and the cruise port at the top of your list and I promise you won't regret it.
Never been to La Placita, sounds fun! You’ll have to check out the bioluminescent bay next time you go and the caves are amazing too.

This post reminded me why I love travelling so much. I was supposed to travel around Spain later this year but as we’re short on cash we can’t do it anytime soon. However, posts like these always remind me of what I fell in love with in the first place, so thank you.
