14 Travel Restrictions By Country: Safe Travel Without the Vaccine

Unvaccinated international travel restrictions have been around for a while now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the grasp on travel without a vaccine is loosening and those who decided to opt out of the shot are getting to travel again.

Disclaimer: This post is in reference to US travelers as was updated on April 13th.

Travel restrictions by country

Some destinations are allowing travelers to travel without the vaccine. Depending on where you go, there is a wide variety of restrictions on unvaccinated travel. My intention was to list the travel restrictions by country but I ended up adding the most popular destinations. To make your life easier, here are a few travel restrictions by country (listed in no particular order):

If you're flying in any of these places

These restrictions were written for travelers using the airport as the port of entry.

Jamaica

As of April 13, Jamaica will allow unvaccinated travelers within its borders with one exception: you must have a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test to enter. The test must have been taken within 72 hours of arrival on the island. Your test must have been administered by a health care professional at a CLIA certified laboratory. Home tests results are not accepted. Information obtained from the US Embassay in Jamaica website.

Mexico

Travelers are allowed to enter Mexico without proof of vaccination and without a COVID-19 test. Source: US Embassay and Consulates in Mexico website.

Aruba

Travelers are allowed to enter Aruba without proof of vaccination and without a COVID-19 test. Source: US Department of State website.

Bahamas

Both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers are allowed in The Bahamas. They must purchase COVID-19 travel insurance and apply for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa. Travelers must show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test. Unvaccinated travlers must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test, take daily health questionnaires, and take an antigen test on day 5 of their trip (if the trip lasts that long). The Maldives

The Maldives do not have any travel restrictions in regards to the COVID-19 vaccine when it comes to crossing thier borders so travelers can come and go as they please. Source: Maldives Ministry of Health website.

Barbados

Barbados will allow unvaccinated travelers within its borders with one exception: you must have a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test to enter. The test must have been taken within 72 hours of arrival on the island. Home tests results are not accepted. Source: Visitbarbados.org

The British Virgin Islands

Unvaccinated travelers must register and provide relevant information to the BVI Gateway Travel Application Portal and must provide a negative PCR test taken 3 to 5 days prior to arrival. Unvaccinated travelers must also provide proof of travel insurance and must pay an entry fee of $175. Source: Government of the Virgin Islands website.

Dominican Republic

To enter the Dominican Republic, you do not need anything specific to enter. Unvaccinated travelers will be subject to random health and temperature checks. Source: Dominican Republic Tourism Website.

St. Lucia

Unvaccinated travelers are allowed in St. Lucia, but must be staying at an COVID-19 approved hotel and only leave the hotel to participate in excursions arranged by the hotel. As far as COVID-19 testing, you must have a negative rapid antigen test taken a day before your departure. Travelers must also submit a pre-arrival travel registration form. United States Virgin Islands

US citizens do not need a passport to visit the US virgin islands

Travelers must submit a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test taken within 5 days of travel and must register on the USVI Travel Screening Portal. Source: USVI Tourism Website.

Puerto Rico

To enter Puerto Rico, there is no requirement for vaccinations or COVID-19 tests. Source: Discover Puerto Rico website.

Greece

Greece and Switzerland

For the first time since covid, Greece and Switzerland have gotten rid of all travel restrictions and travelers can enter the borders restriction-free starting May 2, 2022. Source: Schengen Visa website

United Arab Emirates

The UAE does not require a vaccine to enter. To enter you will need proof of a negative COVID test that was taken 48 hours before departure. Source: Emirates website
